Howard Milner -  Tenor

 

Howard Milner started singing as a chorister at Coventry Cathedral, studied English at Cambridge and then joined the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music, where he won several major prizes.

 

Howard Milner then joined Glyndebourne Festival Opera, with whom he toured to Hong Kong, made his debut as Mr UPFOLD / Albert Herring and his Festival debut in CAPRICCIO / Strauss.  He has sung the title role in LE COMTE ORY, JACQUINO / Fidelio and EUMEUS / Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria with Kent Opera; SQUEAK / Billy Budd and SPOLETTA / Tosca with English National Opera; PEDRILLO / Die Entfürung aus dem Serail and CAMILLE / The Merry Widow for Scottish Opera and CURZIO / Le Nozze di Figaro.  As a member of Opera Factory, Mr Milner has performed ARNALTA / L’Incoronazione di Poppea, SELLEM / Rake’s Prgress and DON CURZIO / The Marriage of Figaro.  With Roger Norrington he recorded ARNALTA in Poppea and MONOSTATOS / Die Zauberflöte for the BBC.

 

He lived in France for two years and among his many appearances there he appeared as COUNT ALMAVIVA / Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Musique en Guyenne and MENGONE / Lo Speziale at Aix-en-Provence with Opera de Chambre de France and Menton.

 

Howard Milner appears regularly in concert both in Britain and Europe, broadcasting frequently for the BBC.  He made his debut at the Proms in L’ALLEGRO / Handel, and has sung in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Venice and Florence.  Recent engagements include DIE SCHÖPFUNG / Haydn in Madrid, LES ILLUMINATIONS and SERENADE FOR TENOR, HORN AND STRINGS with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta and Rossini’s PETITE MESSE SOLENELLE with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.  Among his recordings are the B MINOR MASS and ORFEO with John Eliot Gardiner for Deutsche Grammophon, CHORAL FANTASIA / Roger Norrington for EMI;  ASCANIO IN ALBA / Mozart for Adda and Finzi’s INTIMATIONS OF IMMORTALITY for the BBC.  The ENO Billy Budd is available on DVD.
